February Client Spotlight: The D-1050 Detached Garage Plan

Saturday, February 27th, 2010 by Jeremy

This month we are spotlighting the D-1050 plan. This plan was designed for a personal friend of mine about a year and a half ago.

My client works from home and needed space to meet with clients and separate himself from the family. He also needed more garage space so after working on a few different designs we came up with this one.

It offers a den (with optional wet bar) for group meetings. It has a private restroom and office space with ample storage.

We used the same materials on the exterior as they had on their existing home, so that it would blend seamlessly and look like it belonged. There is nothing more unsightly than an outbuilding that LOOKS like an addition. My client was very happy with the outcome, and so was I.

The D-1050 plan is available on our website and can be modified to fit any lot, and any exterior.

We Learned Something New

We have been working with a client who is doing some remodel work. They are converting their garage into living space, so there are no structural changes. The plans are going through Salt Lake County, and we found out (the hard way) Salt Lake County has changed their requirements on both setbacks and height restrictions.

Even if you aren’t adding on to an existing home you now have to meet the new requirements for any permit. This will make things more challenging for some of our clients who want to remodel!

Website is Updated!

Saturday, December 26th, 2009 by Jeremy

This Christmas, I gave a present to myself – an updated website! Along with adding this shiny new blog, I updated all the floor plans with detailed descriptions. I restructured the pricing so every house plan includes a full lot-specific engineering packet. I think it will really help buyers when they can see the total costs up front.

I also added a fun new line of Detached Garages. One of my favorites is the D-1050. This is so much more than a garage! I love the extra space for a home office or a cozy mother-in-law apartment.

I’m looking forward to having this blog. I really enjoy writing, and this will be a lot of fun. Please check back for more updates soon!
